BC Hydro powers Museum programs

Events & Exhibits — By Lesia Davis on January 8, 2010 at 6:21 pm

BC Hydro is committed to a path of sustainability as part of its three bottom lines -  environmental, social and economic.  The Museum at Campbell River is pleased to be recently awarded a donation from BC Hydro that will help us with a current project “Earth’s Climate Change in the Balance”

In conjunction with the Museum’s current traveling exhibit, are two related public lectures and related school programs.  The school programs are fully registered and are geared for classes of Grades 6, 7 and 8.  Students will be making ‘mega dung’, studying tree ring patterns of west coast Douglas fir and considering the quantity of plastic milk cartons that one classroom’s family could amass in one week.

On January 16th, 1 to 3 pm is a public lecture at the Museum by Jeremy Fyke, a UVIC professor. Fyke says, “Frequently I am asked as a climate scientist whether it is true that humans are responsible for ongoing climate change, if this change actually exists, and if it is greater than climate change that would naturally be seen. This talk is meant to address these questions.”

It was Henry David Thoreau who invited us to speak “a word for nature”  On January 23, 1 to 3 pm, the current Haig-Brown writer in residence, Harry Thurson  who has been doing just that for the past 40 years, will read from his works and talk about his evolution as a nature writer.

Call the Museum to register for either of the talks  – 250-287-3103, or check out our website at www.crmuseum.ca.  Cost is$6 per person.
